I missed a lot of great albums recommended to me. I’m now keeping a list of them here, so I can proceed down the list systematically:
http://www.willhines.net/albums.html
Good God, check out that list! That’s huge! Yet my obsessive nature commands me to listen to everything.
The only way I’m getting through it is if someone hands me a bunch of these on discs. Purnell listed like 700 albums, but then again he DID give me copies of them, and I listened to them. If anyone can help me out — especially if you recommended something to me and really want me to hear it:
The red rows I don’t have copies of.
The white rows I already had or already knew.
The green rows I did not have, but have gotten or have heard since the album was recommended to me.
And if you’re going to suggest more, 3 maximum, and no more than one by any single artist.
Ok, now who get me a copy of “Back in Black”?

I just burned Sarah Harmer, Walter Becker, Paul Simon and Miles Davis onto a disc. It was my first attempt at an MP3 disc rather than an audio cd. I hope the overwhelming volume of songs on the disc won’t cause them all to blur together. For some reason my computer wasn’t recognizing my Van Morrison CD.
More to come.

Erik, I made Will an MP3 CD of all REM albums except for Around the Sun (wasn’t out yet). The only problem I had was it put the songs in alphabetical order as opposed to how they are listed on the album. Did this happen to you?

I hope not - I put the CD into my PC laptop and it seemed to play everything in order by album.
I burned the CD in iTunes… maybe that helped?
Also, now that time has passed, I think I enjoy “Around the Sun” more than “Reveal.” But I’m not terribly excited about anything they’ve done since “New Adventures in Hi-Fi.”

I’ll give you Back In Black and Moondance -although if you’re like me, Moondance will make you want to break something.
Like, all your bones.

I also enjoy Around the Sun better than Reveal. We are smart.

Erik — That’s great! I can’t wait.
Eliza, I am now appropriately wary of Moondance. Still, I feel compelled to give it a listen.

My list makes me look like I’m 13. It’s really just an over-reaction to the music my mom listened to growing up: Ann Murry, Air Suply, John Denver, Amy Grant, and John Denver to name a few.
Any port in a storm.

Eliza-
Van Morrison?
Van Lessison to you.

(Will, “Moondance” will make you want to break something …. your heart.)
(Brian, yes. Do you agree that everything after “New Advenures” is sub-par? Because that’s essential to the argument. [Not discounting the fact that some songs, like, say, "At My Most Beautiful" are pretty good.])

Erik, yeah I would say post New Ad. Hi-Fi albums are sub par, (in REM standards) but each of those albums hold great tracks. Actually, New Adventures had to grow on me after I bought it, but now I really enjoy it. Around the Sun grew on me too, and more so after seeing them live after the album came out. As far as “At My Most Beautiful” being pretty good, I love that song. It’s one of my favorites along with Day Sleeper also off of Up. Reveal never really grabbed me.

I’ve been listening to a lot of ABBA recently and I want to spread their gospel, but I’ll burn you some of the “hipper” music that I listed and I won’t subject you to Agnetha and Frida’s beautiful voices and silken jumpsuits.

Z, it’s “beautiful jumpsuits and silken voices.”
Thank you for the music,
tony
