I got a delivery from amazon.com today, comprised of CDs by Metric (Live it Out), Loretta Lynn (Van Lear Rose) and Willie Nelson (Crazy - Demo Sessions) and also Ubik by Phillip K. Dick. I’m usually at work when these things arrive. A few weeks ago, I happened to be home when one arrived. The UPS deliveryman rang my doorbell. I can’t buzz anyone in, so I leaned out my window (third floor) and shouted down “Who is it?”
He answered “UPS. Come down here.”
I said “What, how do you know it’s for me?”
He said “It’s ALWAYS for you.”
Hmph.

Separately, a messenger came into our office yesterday and barked “Speedy delivery!” He wasn’t being playful, but said [...]

My office is a big room. There are 10 of us who work in here. We can all hear each other’s conversations. Yesterday, I heard this:

Girl 1, having just emailed a photo of some kind to Girl 2: This is so cute.
Girl 2: Isn’t it cute?
Girl 1: SO cute.

Hey, there! Come see me sing Saturday night, when I will be part of Terry Jinn’s annual birthday concert, Enormous Television. Terry basically creates a rock band out of about 30 of his friends. Dr. Jinn gets to show off his guitar licks. Everyone else gets to bask in the attention created from all of Terry’s work. Terry is amazing! For my last birthday, I got exhausted inviting people to a bar.

  • I watched War Games with commentary from the writers and directory John Badham yesterday. He directed Saturday Night Fever! Genius, right? He also directed Short Circuit. Ah, back to the ground. The original director of War Games was Marty Brest, who would later direct Beverly Hills Cop and Scent of a Woman. Why was he taken off? Film geeks, step forward and illuminate.
