willhines.net sells out!
by Will
Ten minutes after I posted how I would never put ads on My Fellow Jerks, I thought to myself, “Uh, why not?” If I can do it in a way that isn’t overly intrusive and also covers the costs of the webserver (five dollars a month), that would be good.
So I’m testing out Google AdSense on my blog here first. There’s one vertical one to the left of the main blog, and another one that appears on the page when you view a post in its entirety. It is fun seeing which ads Google feels are appropriate for the words we type here. Just in testing this, I’ve seen ads for Agatha Christie, Marvel Comics and… “Mom Blogs.”
The borders around the ads that appear below each post are ugly, but I feel it’s more honest to box off ads that appear within content.
We’ll see how this goes. If I feel they hurt the site’s look too much, I’ll take them off in a few weeks.

I don’t mind the ads on the bottom of the page, but the ads to the left bother me for some reason.
That is interesting to me, because I feel the other way around. The ones in the grey seem less intrusive to me because they’re outside the white box of the blog. But thank you for saying that, since that’s kinda of what I want to know.
the ones at the left get cut off on my monitor at work, so i am fine with this!
I don’t like any of the ads.
I am very interested in your site.
Great deal!
I found a site where you can get vialis.
Check out these awesome Britney Spears pics.

You guys are hilarious!
When you IPO this site can I get in on the pre-IPO offering? I hear that’s where the real money is.
You are dead to me.
Oh, you guys’ll get over it. I’m curious how many clicks I get. Will Hines Inc. will re-assess in a week. Foster, I’ll make sure you get a heads up on buying shares.
I thought it was weird that they were all ads for comic books.
Then I remembered whose site I was on.
Now it’s got “Coffee Exposed”, which makes sense, and “Parenting Tips Newsletter”, which doesn’t.
The side ads push the content down for me, so they’re floating above — not looking good
You can customize the colors of your adsense, I’d recommend dropping the default blue for the cyan that is the link color for the rest of the site and setting the default green to something else… different gray?
Also, you suck. Later, nerds.
I have the same problem as Dyna – which makes the ads suck balls.
If they didn’t ruin the layout on my computer I would not care about them at all.
The side ads pushed the Will Hines content off my screen. Now that you removed them, I can read your content again. I really miss those side ads.
JUST KIDDING! Ha ha ha oink!
side ads!

Strange, I didn’t see the problem. But I hate CSS and don’t want to mess with fixing it. And the ads aren’t worth THAT much trouble, for sure.
Still need to change those ad colors — all in gray would be good and less attention getting.
Goddamn it, change those ad colors already!
