Ok, I’ve cleaned out another two shelves worth of books. If you want any and are someone that I run into, claim dibs. Basically, I’m getting rid of books that I’ll either never read again (Lonely Planet: Antarctica) or that I can easily get again (Gulliver’s Travels).
My neighbor snatched the PKDs already. “What?” think my beleaguered friends. “We had to hear you talk about PKD for a year and now you’re just getting rid of those books?” Well, yeah. I’ve decided that my bookshelf is primarily for what I WANT to read, not what I’ve already read.
Check ‘em out!

You need to stop buying books and get a library card.
That said, I’ll take some of those.

If no one’s claimed Disappointment Artist and all those programming books, I’ll grab them.
I actually don’t need PHP Cookbook or Progrmming PERL but I’ll take them if you don’t want to break up the set.
And I will point out the sad commentary on my life — during the last purge I claimed a bunch of great works of literature. This time I’m asking for disappointment and computer programming manuals.

Those books are yours!
Also gone: the other 33 1/3rds.

Oooh. Can I have Mere Christianity, Dorothy Parker and The Corrections.
Also, did you finish Pale Fire? Man, I had a hard time with that book.
I saw that you had a book called Code Complete, which I assume is a computer book. It made me laugh though because when I worked at Disney that’s what the gay guys would say when someone said, did or wore something that eliminated any question as to their being gay.

Ashely, those books are yours. Mere Christianity was recommended to me by my first girlfriend in 1987 and I finally read it somewhere around 1999. It’s a strange book — C.S. Lewis trying to logically present the case as to why Christianity is true and should be followed. Separately, the band Sixpence None The Richer gets their name from this book.
I believe I’ve read all the books pictured. Pale Fire took some work, but it paid off with a great ending.
Code Complete has a lot about how to maximize programming time and very little about sucking dick.

I want the book about taking care of cats.

i’ll take naked (i have it on audio, but not a physical copy), ender’s game and the metropolitan life, since you recommend it. ignore if i missed that these were already claimed.

I don’t believe that you read Moby Dick. I think that’s a leftover appendage from UConn.
Jul 6th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
I don’t believe Jim read War & Peace.
Jul 6th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
At the risk of being greedy, since they don’t seem to have been claimed yet, I’d also give a home to the two Agatha Christies and the Laura Kightlinger.
Is Lonely Planet Antarctica a real book?
Jul 6th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
i will also snag letters from the earth and urban tribes, if available
Jul 7th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
I am annoyed that I missed the Hornby books and the PKDs; I also just paid full retail for the Lonely Planet SF. I am also amazed at how much your bookshelves resemble(d) mine.
Time to do my own purge. clearly, and not profit from the purges of others.
Jul 8th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Actually Brian, you don’t believe that I read War & Peace the second time (which I did).
Jul 10th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
Shit. How did I miss this post?
Will: Get more books I can have.
Jul 11th, 2007 at 10:38 am
thanks for the books, yo. i had like 20 pounds of knowledge in my tote bag last night. and i ended up having to walk 3 avenues and ten blocks to get to a 6 train that was running. so now i am strong like an ox.
true story.
p.s. nice haircut.
Jul 11th, 2007 at 10:46 am
Oh yeah, I’m sorry about that — I’ve been unloading all the books on everyone, which means I’m distributing weight pretty generously.
If it’s any consolation, I had to carry about three times that many books from my Williamburg hut to the UCBT. So that’s kinda like, hard, or whatever.
Jul 11th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Thanks Will!
Dave Eggers gave me similarly oxen-like strength.
Jul 11th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
no, it’s totally cool, i was just mad at the 6 train for sucking dead donkey dick and running express south of grand central. knowledge should be weighty. i heard that somewhere.

If Lonely Planet: Antarctica is still available, I would like it.
