Wednesday Round-Up

  • Here’s a fun review of Jaime Hernandez’ latest collection, The Education of Hopey Glass.
  • A fun project to do would be to show my favorite comics panels of all time. I’d scan the panels and list the title and date published — but not offer any context to the story at all. Just one per story. That would be fun. I might do that.
  • My old improv team 1985 went to a karaoke club last night. New song I take away: Major Tom, by Peter Schilling as introduced to me by Risa Sang-Urai. Birch had to leave early but he had put in the theme to Fat Albert. So when it came up in the queue, Porter sang it as Birch. That’s fun.
  • We’ve had lots of fun appearances by UCBT folks on the Mo Rocca blog. At the top is a fun parody of the Lipstick Jungle - Cashmere Mafia shows. Zach Woods, Lennon Parham and Molly Lloyd did this one inspired by campaign’s overuse of the word ‘experience.’ And then Charlie Sanders, Maggie Carey and Greg Tuculescu did this one about the overuse of the word ‘change.’
  • Channel 102 is going to change its name to Channel 101: NY. That’s a big change which is long overdue. I’m excited. After Tony handed the reins of 102 to me — when was that, I can’t even remember — but I always wrestled with “Are we really part of Channel 101? Can we own that, or not? What the hell am I doing?” I handed the reins to Stephen Levinson last August (because I was going crazy and hating it from having to administer everything) and it was the smartest move I made. He’s doing great, and this name change is proof of that.
  • Finished Burmese Days. It was okay. Starting the third Harry Potter book, which Dyna lent me fifteen years ago.

  1. Kevin Hines

Listen carefully to Zach Woods during the ‘experience’ video and you can hear Will laugh. I think he laughs twice, but I mostly heard him during the line “ticket to the bone exhibit”.

Also that line should sell anyone on watching that video.

  2. Will

I also laugh when he describes someone as having “double-d milkers.”
