Cakey! The Cake From Outer Space is now on Superdeluxe. Cakey’s debut at Channel 102 is one of my favorite moments. It was a good sized crowd at Anthology Theater and the episode starts. By the time the OPENING credits were rolling, people were cheering as if Cakey! The Cake From Outer Space was a long-beloved character of American culture. Really fun. Cakey was a huge smash there — crowds cheered and gasped at every episode. At that time, each Channel 102 screening would end with episodes from Cakey and Puppet Rapist — a nice one-two punch of brutal cuteness.
I like that it’s never explained how Duncan meets Cakey, or how exactly Cakey The Cake From Outer Space got FROM Outer Space to Earth. He’s just here already, and so now let’s watch him play with Duncan, the 13 year old with a rapid aging disease. It is completely dorky and brutally dark — no surprise as it was made by Kirk Damato and Dyna Moe. You decide who’s who. Bill Buckendorf shot and edited this and did the digital effects. It looks amazing! Since he does a lot of Ben Schwartz’ stuff, he’s practically on the house team at Superdeluxe.
Bill also shot this peanut butter video for DeCoster and I.

I love Cakey so much. How can you not like Cakey? Not that anyone doesn’t… I’m just baffled about how fucking likable they’ve made him! And Gavin is of course Cakey’s perfect match as one of the most likable people ever.

thanks Will!
dark and dorky, my favorite combo. (like CREAMY peanut butter and chocolate)
I adore Cakey and his loving, but creepily presented; gift of Nemo. Reminds me of the John Coffey character from The Green Mile coughing out ( stale Cocoa Krispies / as my sister insists) to lovingly help heal those around him…..
wish Cakey would make a special guest appearance at my house…
