National Grid
by Will

This van is parked on my street near a major gas pipe repair project. The stark Helvetica front makes this look like a state agency. Or a van of Thought Police. Or a bloodmobile from Scandinavia.

The diamond dot on the second i throws me.
I would give blood to this van.
It creeped me out too when I suddenly started seeing these vans everywhere. Turns out it’s the gas company, which has changed names since I’ve lived here from Brooklyn Union, to Keyspan, and now to “National Grid”. Brooklyn Union was a pretty cool name for a utility.
I don’t think they needed that diamond dot. Maybe the graphic designers thought Helvetica was just too easy.
What you see as “fascist government” looks like “European government” to me.
Maybe that’s not all that different.
