Here’s what you do: go download Firefox 3, then open a browser window and type “about:robots” and hit enter. You will see this:
That’s fun. Can someone tell me what the references are? I get the I, Robot one (”robots may not injure a human being…”) and the Battlestar Galactica oneĀ (”and they have a plan.”)
Surfing for the answers (which I’ve found) led me to the Robot Hall of Fame, which includes both real and ficitonal robots. This is a good time, people!

I loved this also… when I heard about LAST MONTH, Hines.
My favorite is from the title tag of the page, “Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!”
It’s from the film, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. Here’s its explanation:

Apparently it’s a commonly referenced thing. I love finding out about something deeply entrenched in culture that I never even heard of.

Also, I hope the tag “robots” is one you make regular use of going forward.

The last one is a version of Bender’s catchphrase.

The “Plastic Pal Who’s Fun To Be With” is Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the the context of a marketing slogan thought up by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation. Go stick your head in a pig.
And I’m pretty sure the second one is from Blade Runner. But it’s been a while.

The second was is, indeed, from Blade Runner. Roy Batty to Deckard as he dies.
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

If they spent half as much time making 3 not suck like 2 as they did making easter eggs, we should be all good.
