Looking For New Checking
by Will
I was going to write “a new checking account” in the title but I feel like that will attract spam commenters.
Anyway, I have Citibank, which used to require not that much minimum balance in order to forgo monthly fees. Post-economic collapse and they require a $6000 combined balance to forgo monthly fees. Too much monthly fee! So I’m going to switch banks. If you love your bank please tell me. Online bill payment a must.
Man, I am seriously inviting spam. It’d be worse if I was asking for a dick enlarging mortgage rate online pharmacy. And now I will be banned by my own spam filter software.

I use Chase and have no minimum balance and no monthly fee. Plus, they have ATMs everywhere (including in every Duane Reade).
I also use Chase. But I DO have a minimum balance… It’s not too bad, but I hit it once every few years.
Though if I needed to switch banks I’d go to TD. They have very few fees of any kind, and I’d like to encourage that.
I use and enjoy TD Bank. (With a branch conveniently located between the UCBT and McManus.) No fees, online bill pay, and I get reimbursed for ATM fees at other banks. I don’t think they have a big minimum balance, but I’m not sure because I have millions of dollars in my account.
hey there, I hear U R looking 4 a NEW CHECKING ACCOUNT. want 2 party with a bank near Williamsburg? We have plenty of singles. Also 10s and 20s. Pretty much any denomination… whatever your looking 4… click now to start a hot new account. IM SO HORNY FOR YOUR BANKING
Will, the way to go is Charles Schwab Online Interest Checking. You have to mail in deposits (and do direct deposit), but they pay YOU interest.
Also, they reimburse ALL ATM fees, so you go to any bank and that $3 they charge you gets refunded monthly. Highly recommend it. they make you open a linked brokerage account but don’t require any money in it and the checking account has either no minimum or a very low minimum balance.
You have online bill pay and real, normal checks.
If anybody in your family was ever a member of the military, you can get an account with USAA. They don’t have physical banks everywhere, but they give you free ATM transactions with other bank ATMs and to deposit checks, all you have to do is scan ‘em and email or take a picture with your phone (might have to be an iPhone).
USAA is the bomb.
I have the same deal as Tanouye, at TD Bank, and I think they’re great. Branches are open 7 days a week and they have free dog biscuits! It’s like they go beyond the standard level of “tolerating” ordinary people.
However, since TD Banknorth and Commerce Bank merged, I don’t think they are reimbursing ATM fees for new accounts.
But being able to use any ATM in Manhattan without worrying about a fee, even in a bodega, feels like a superpower. So even though I know nothing about the Charles Schwab thing, I’d recommend checking it out, or something like it. Maybe SexxyBank.
TD is Canadian. I support this.
I have Bank of America. My fees are okay, but not great. I originally had Fleet, so I was excited when they became part of BoA since Bank of America has a ton of ATM locations.
I’m thinking of switching to TD though.
