In January 1997, I performed at an open mike set at Rebar, a now demolished bar which was at 16th street and 7th Avenue. I had been watching every Monday for a month or so and I was now going up. My jokes were numbered because I would try to make myself write 10. Ritch Duncan was a regular at those nights. So was soon-to-be Daily Show writer Chris Regan. Leo Allen and Andy Blitz were there now and then. Dan Cronin, who wrote for Conan’s Tonight Show. Anyway, I never talked to any of those people though Ritch and I became friends later. This was my set, which I read off of the paper word for word:

Lanny’s Ex-Wife Cheryl. Rob and I got our old UCBT compadres to be in our show at the LA theatre. Jessica St. Clair played Lanny’s ex-wife Cheryl. Jessica took classes at the same time as Rob and I. I love that she almost breaks here after saying “lasers.” The whole Get Psyched LA show is broken into chapters on YouTube. The Indigenous Flowers of Southern California Ep. 1 – Mitch Magee’s first Funny Or Die series. This is right up my alley. Who is this man talking to in his bathroom? Just how many flowers are there? How big IS that bathtub? Adam Pally and Eugene Cordero are great, as is the rest of the cast as the series unfolds. Watch all four parts or else you’re a big nerd. Each one ends strong and the end of episode four is my favorite thing in all of media.

This weekend my brother and I are going to California to do two two-man improv shows for UCB Tourco. In honor of this occasion, Kevin made Brothers Hines West Coast Tour T-shirts. Brothers Hines T-Shirts are available here.

Kevin wrote a nice post about our history improvising together. I love that I get to perform with my brother and to do so for big enthusiastic crowds! It is a fun time. Things my brother and I like to do in improv scenes: argue, assume ridiculous points of view, stand behind implied podiums, have transactions scenes in which we quibble, look forward and talk to an unseen animal.

• Halfway through DC Pierson’s book The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep And Didn’t Have To and I super dig it.
• Got two more videos shot and trying to get them edited
• Would like to never have to shave again. Advice?
• Tried Google Chrome; found that it doesn’t seem to handle GMail well on the Mac.
• Am abandoning these bullet points.
