Sexy Screenname. So this was a sketch at Maude Night two weeks ago, and I enjoyed it, and so the cast, author and I decided to video record it and here it is. Written by Rob Cacy. Starring Matt Evans, featuring the voice of Kristy Webb. Kristy was actually standing just off camera, doing her lines live into a microphone. That’s interesting, right?
Also, episode two of The Line is up. Gavin and I speak!
Here’s 15 Seconds, another UCB Comedy video I helped produce. Written by Chris Kelly. Directed by Mitch Magee. Shot/edited by Todd Bieber. Originally done by 27 Kidneys at Maude Night. Check it out!
This is one of my favorite sketches I’ve ever seen at UCBT, because it surprised me even though I’ve seen a million “bomb defusing” scenes/sketches before. We wanted to find a real warehouse to film in, but I couldn’t locate one with a location fee of under $400 — so we did this in the back hallways of the UCBT. Those hallways have been the subject of countless “let’s shoot this [...]
Another video from UCBComedy-NY! Polchek subs! Written by Jesse Acini. Directed by Brandon Bassham. Shot/edited by Pete Schultz. Starring Mike Still, Aaron Glaser and John Frusciante.
Here’s the second of UCBT-NY original videos. Bad Company Fudge Company. Written by Geoff Garlock, Directed/Edited by Craig Rowin, Starring Jim Santangeli, show by Todd Bieber.
Great job, guys! Craig Rowin’s videos are always hilariously weird. And Geoff Garlock is hands-down the best Bad Company sketch writer in the business. Hoping to get one a week published from here on out. We’ll see.
We did a fun shoot here at AOL last week where
a) pretended Mo Rocca has a morning show
b) and that on this morning show a drag queen shows the men at home how to dress up as Michelle Obama
So that happened! Thanks to Dion Flynn for being our male volunteer and to Peppermint for being our drag queen expert!
So there’s been a rumor (with zero backing evidence) for a little while that Michelle Obama said “whitey” at a discussion at her and Barack’s church. It’s insane: there’s no evidence, and it’s only talked about at this point because it has been talked about. But yesterday at Mo Rocca 180 (where I work) we decided to “find” the video tape. And with Melle Powers playing the part of Michelle — here it is. I have a 2 second cameo of which I am disproportionately proud. And thanks to Erik Tanouye for the suggestion of using “Wide T.”
This is M. Night Shyamalan Burger, a UCB Comedy Original we shot last night. It’s based on a sketch Charlie Sanders wrote up. Brandon Bassham got us a location last night, Bieber shot it then I edited it. A 24-hour turnaround from when Anthony King gave us the script. Pretty cool. This is Ray Munoz as M. Night — and he does a great job.
Bieber pointed out that it isn’t THAT far off from the American Express commercial M. Night did. I mean, we did a “Be Kind Rewind” version, but still.
My blog can’t handle its widescreen awesomeness.
Goodness gracious, everyone! It’s a new Sue Galloway video!
This was a sketch in Sue’s one-woman show (which goes up again this Friday 6:30pm at UCBT, by the by). It’s very funny, and Sue and I assumed it would be easy and painless to film and edit. It was painless to film (maybe not so much for Sue as she did 9 unbroken takes of this) but editing was… well, maybe not tough, but not quick. Let’s just say it was tough so the story doesn’t get too wishy-washy. Nine improvised takes does not make for easy cuts. But we figured it out.
Thanks to waiter Brandon for securing the [...]
Here’s Ask Bobby — a Rob Lathan sketch from the Osgood-Schlatter days. I had the pleasure of shooting and editing these. Greg Tuculescu and Violet Krumbein are the callers.
Spoiler Alert: If you’ve watched it already, you’re probably trying to put the pieces together. Ok, a few pieces of advice: watch what Bobby does with his hands right in the opening credits of the show, then compare that with the record sleeve that comes into view towards the end. Remember that FDR had a cat named “Ben.” If you watch the timer at the bottom, you’ll see that a significant confession always seems to arrive when the clock [...]
[superdeluxe D81F2344BF5AC7BB176D589BD370F931185EDD437F575FE3 Cakey!]
Cakey! The Cake From Outer Space is now on Superdeluxe. Cakey’s debut at Channel 102 is one of my favorite moments. It was a good sized crowd at Anthology Theater and the episode starts. By the time the OPENING credits were rolling, people were cheering as if Cakey! The Cake From Outer Space was a long-beloved character of American culture. Really fun. Cakey was a huge smash there — crowds cheered and gasped at every episode. At that time, each Channel 102 screening would end with episodes from Cakey and Puppet Rapist — a nice one-two punch of brutal cuteness.
I like that it’s never explained how Duncan meets Cakey, or how exactly Cakey The Cake From Outer [...]
