STOP THE WEDDING

A BRIDE and GROOM stand facing the audience. A PRIEST has his back to the audience and is finishing reading a set of wedding vows.

PRIEST

And so by the power vested in me by the state of Connecticut, I hereby pronounce you...

BRAD rushes in through the rear stage doors, out of breath.

BRAD

Stop the ceremony!

The BRIDE, GROOM and PRIEST turn to face him

BRAD (CONT'D)

Trudy! Listen, I know this is gonna sound crazy, but don't do this! I love you! And we were meant to be together, not you and him! I know I had my chance, but please -- don't go through with this! Come away with me!

The GROOM is shocked, and looks to the bride who considers.

BRIDE

Oh, Brad! I love you too! Yes, I'll come away with you!

BRAD is stunned.

BRAD

You... will?

Jesus, I never thought you'd actually go THROUGH with this! I gotta think this over now... if you're really gonna go through with this, that's a lot of responsibility. I'm breaking up a marriage!

BRIDE rolls eyes.

BRAD

I mean, now that I think about it, do I really want to be some loopy broad that would leave a guy at the altar? I mean, he seems nice enough. You know what, forget I said anything.

BRAD leaves.

BRIDE

Okay, let's keep going with this, then.

GROOM

Honey!

BRIDE

Don't worry, don't worry. I just... I don't know. (to priest) Hit it.
