WORDLESS RAP
A talk show set up. NPR music host - late 40s, grey haired
and hip to music in the way of someone who's read about a lot, and a hip-hop
artist. I am not culturally equipped to be writing this sketch.
HOST
Welcome back to "Check Your Levels" - the best music talk
show on public Cleveland radio. Today our guest is "Pryde," a rap artist from
the east side who's getting major buzz with the local indie labels. He's going
to be on Conan O'Brien next week so we wanted to talk to him before he got too
big for the show.
PRYDE
(laughs)
Naw, naw. Not gonna be THAT fast.
HOST
Well, from what I'm reading in the blogosphere, it might not
be long for you. So I understand you brought one of your new tracks with you.
PRYDE
Yeah. It's called "Turn it around."
HOST
Well, let's hear it.
A beat starts.
Then a thick fuzzy bass.
After a vamp, a flourish of keyboards.
A super-modulated voice comes in saying "Turn it around!!!!!" with a
reverberated echo.
All of it stop in silence, then resumes with a thump.
After another vamp, it all stops but the keyboard for a vamp.
Then another "Turn it around!!!!" maybe even more modulated.
Horns enter to match the bass.
A guitar solo.
Thick string orchestration.
It all comes to a close. We hear "Turn it around!!!!!" continue as the music
stops.
The host and Pryde consider.
HOST
You're not really a "rapper."
